“This evening, Johny’s amateur orchestra read three movements of the 8th Beethoven symphony—two of Schubert in C, and three of Haydn no. 6 (most lovely). Their work is rough, certainly, but it discloses the substance or outline, at least, of the composer’s conception, and after reading a movement twice or thrice, they bring out its meaning quite clearly.”
