“Went through the slush to ‘Robinson Hall,’ a pretty little concert room in W. 16th St. where the ‘Amateur Philharmonic,’ with Johny as cello, & Temple as 2nd oboe, gave its first public rehearsal. Orchestra about 40. Audience large, considering. Heard Beethoven’s 2nd symphony, the Semiramide overture, & a composition for the strings alone (by the conductor, Herr Meyer). A very fine performance, though the clarionets & horns did lose their way a little, once or twice.”
