“Annual Philharmonic meeting & election yesterday at Germania Assembly Rooms, 293 Bowery. Re-elected president—62 to 2, and the announcement by the tellers was received with loud & long-continued applause by my good-natured German friends. These gentlemen seem quite to like me, Heaven knows why. All the others were re-elected, but by smaller majorities. Poor George Gissner is in the last stage of consumption, I hear. We made Herr Rubinstein an honorary member.”
