“Evening: Committee on Music at Trinity Chapel, vestry room…Proposals for new organ at St. John’s examined. We recommend vestry to adopt the proposal of that swine, Henry Erben. I should have preferred the Odells. John P. Morgan is going to resign his post at Trinity Church, on account of ill health, & transfer himself to California. I am sorry Morgan is ill, but --------, etc. Carter, his provisional locum tenens, will doubtless succeed him in the organ loft, much to our advantage….My plan of putting a 2nd story over the robing rooms on south side of chancel of Trinity Church, & opening a kind of triforium into the chancel, for the orchestra, on festivals, seems favorably received, so I shall talk to Upjohn about it.”

"Upjohn sent in plans for altering south side Trinity Church chancel, so as to make a place for the orchestra. They look well, & Morgan Dix likes them. The outsidest estimate of cost (Upjohn’s estimate) is $1500.00 (?????)."
