“At Trinity Church…Church crowded; very little standing room unoccupied. Orchestral work far the best we have ever had, & no wonder, when such men as Bergner, Matzka & Rietzel were enlisted, instead of the scrubs Morgan has heretofore inflicted on us. Gounod’s Sanctus was as it were a quart of cold water poured down the back of my neck. For the rest of the Mass I do not care very much. There was a lovely profusion of flowers. Braem attends to that department.”
