“Afternoon: To Trinity Church for rehearsal of Whitsunday music. Rather rough. The final voluntary, 4th movement of C minor symphony, went well. I prevailed on Carter to precede it with the last third of the 3rd movement, so as to let us have the grand crescendo by which the two movements are connected, and also not to mutilate the 4th, as heretofore, by cutting out its little souvenir of the 3rd.”
