“Orchestral service at Trinity Church, this being Trinity Sunday. Crowd of course. Service wonderfully well done considering. Introit by one Garrett, quite nice—offertory, a motett by Hummel, remarkably nice. Credo & all the rest from Haydn’s lovely healthy hearty Mass no. 1 (The program certified the Gloria to be by Mozart—which it wasn’t, at all)—closing voluntary, Andante of 5th symphony. The clangor & rush with which the Gloria opens, and the great monolithic or Cyclopean phrase of the Credo, came out effectively.”
