“An additional $300.00 for C. M. A. came in this morning—& ‘we may be happy yet.’ It would be a great pity to let so fine & well-trained a chorus disperse. Attended their rehearsal this evening at Trinity Chapel Schoolhouse—parts of Niedermeyer Mass & of the Mount of Olives (in its English version) were well done—especially the final chorus of the latter—a transcendently noble movement. His Lordship [the bishop] of Zanzibar attended & was interested. He discoursed with me during the interval (a pause for refreshment & respiration), and I found him most amiable.”
