“’Protracted meeting’ of Supplies & Repairs Committee this afternoon with the rector. Much business done. My pet plan of an orchestral gallery or triforium came up & was killed, I fear, by Cisco’s prejudices & ignorance. He knows no more of church music than a cow & cares no more for it than a cat—but he thinks the orchestral services are ‘very good as they are,’ & don’t approve them, nevertheless, because they draw such crowds to the church. The question ‘lies over,’ but the proposition is moribund.”
