Review: New York Clipper, 13 March 1875, 398.

“…Miss Nelly St. John, who made her metropolitan debut, is entitled to rank among the best vocalists upon the variety stage. Endowed by nature with beauty of form and features, which were rendered more attractive by a charming toilet of light-green silk, trimmed with white lace, she secured the favor of her auditors on her appearance, and ere she finished her first song her complete success was assured. Her voice is sweet, melodious and powerful, thoroughly under control, and its culture has evidently been obtained in a good school. She exhibits more skill in her art than is generally seen among this class of vocalists. She was rapturously applauded, and many times recalled….George S. Knight, who reappeared after a brief absence, sang a number of Dutch songs, which were comical and entertaining. The hilarity of the spectators attested to Mr. Knight’s excellence as a performer…Attendance good.”
