“At the sixteenth organ concert given at Holy Trinity Church in Madison avenue yesterday Mr. S. P. Warren, the organist of the church, presided at the instrument. The programme was, as usual with Mr. Warren’s selections, wholly unexceptionable. It consisted principally of pieces composed expressly for the organ which rank very high as works of art. Among these, special reference should be made to Bach’s trio for two manuals and a pedal organ, Mendelssohn’s sonata in A with the lovely concluding slow movement (Andante tranquillo), Handel’s concerto in B flat and Schumann’s canon. The concert ended with a brilliant transcription of Wagner’s ‘Tannhäuser’ overture that served well to display the varied capabilities of the instrument in the rendering of orchestral works. Madame Fannie Goodwin Lunt sang ‘The Forsaken’ by Loretz, and Handel’s beautiful air ‘Come unto Him.’”
