“…It [Dachauer’s mass] is a very dramatic and effective work, exceedingly ingenious in its treatment and contrasts of color and full of those impressive ensembles that lend such a grandeur to the opera. The soloists were Mrs. Henrietta Corradi, whose singing of the highly descriptive ‘Agnus Dei’ was characterized by a thoroughly finished and artistic spirit; Mlle. Octavie Gomien, contralto, who distinguished herself in singing Nava’s ‘Veni Creator,’ and Mr. Blum, basso, to whom was allotted a very beautiful solo, ‘Benedictus,’ to which he did ample justice. There was also a well selected chorus, under the direction of the eminent organist Mr. Louis Dachauer. At the offertory the well known ‘Ave Maria’ by the organist was given in superb style. The musical services at St. Ann’s Church have long since acquired a high reputation, and nothing was lacking yesterday to do fitting honor to the great festival. The skill of the organist, the acknowledged talents of his solo vocalists and the high training of his chorus gave effect to every musical work performed.”
