“Slave cabin songs, as sung by the Old Aunties.”
“The Tennesseans, a troupe of negro minstrels, the members of which were formerly slaves in the South, will give an entertainment at Cooper Institute on Wednesday afternoon. They are clever and interesting performers, and the purpose with which their present enterprise is undertaken gives them an additional claim upon the public attention and practical support. They are endeavoring to raise money for the further endowment of a negro college, already established in Tennessee. These singers have good voices, and they illustrate the songs, ballad music, and religious aspect of plantation life.”
