“Yesterday afternoon, at Holy Trinity Church, the nineteenth organ concert of the present season was given. Mr. S. N. Penfield, of Christ Church, Savannah, Georgia, presided at the instrument. The most important pieces in the programme were Bach’s Toccata in F major and Mendelssohn’s organ Sonata in F minor. The Romanza and Scherzo from Schumann’s D minor Symphony and the introduction to Meyerbeer’s ‘Robert le Diable’ were the most interesting of the arrangements. Wagner’s ‘Tannhäuser March’ being greatly curtailed was not fairly presented.

Mrs. Davidson sang Sullivan’s ‘Weep not for the dead’ with considerable pathos, and received great praise. Herr Adolf Sohst exhibited his really fine baritone voice and artistic style in Stradella’s aria, ‘Pieta Signore,’ which has been so frequently heard as a trombone solo, accompanied by the Thomas orchestra.”
