“The concert given by Mr. Laurence’s pupils at Association Hall, yesterday evening, attracted a small but appreciative audience. The programme included vocal performances only; these were generally creditable, there appearing to be a greater lack of voice than of skill on the part of the singers. The most successful effort of the night was that of Miss Orme, a soprano whose fresh and powerful tones won for a recital of Millard’s ‘Waiting’ an encore which had to be complied with. Miss Orme’s execution revealed some rather serious defects, but her gifts are too valuable not to encourage their possessor in the pursuit of studies which ought to render her method as good as her voice.”
