“This Bowery resort was filled by a large audience of well dressed and apparently respectable people—admission ten cents—to listen to a ‘sacred concert’ by Herrn C. Schernstein’s ‘Wiener Damen Orchesters,’ which embraced in the programme such highly religious pieces as the ‘Frühlingsklänge Polka,’ ‘Du Und Du Waltzer,’ ‘Pot Pourri from Fra Diavolo,’ ‘Windspiele Galop,’ ‘Variationen über das Fuchslied,’ a ‘Trovatore’ potpourri, a concert polka and other operatic and musical specialties—all of which were rendered with much artistic merit by the well skilled Viennese ladies composing the orchestra. The presence of the police was unnecessary, if they had put in an appearance; for a more orderly audience never assembled within a public place of amusement in the city than that congregated in the Atlantic Garden last night.”
