“Wood’s Minstrels are as popular as ever. The same eager throngs flocking night after night to witness the same programme, to hear the same music, listen to the same songs, applaud the same dance, laugh at the familiar joke, look upon the same faces, and enjoy the same humor or grimace which months ago, in their first novelty, gave zest and piquancy to the representation. Some of the ballads are interpreted with considerable taste and ability, especially those allotted to Messrs. Wambold, Henry, and Master Wood, whose soft and agreeable voices impart great sweetness and beauty to whatever they sing. Altogether there is something extremely pleasing to the contemplative mind in witnessing so many hundreds of both sexes listening to excellent singing, enjoying a hearty laugh, and passing a few hours in harmless and social recreation.”
