Announcement: New-York Times, 21 December 1863, 4.
“The next concert will be under the direction of Mr. Carl Bergmann. Let no one attend it—or the rehearsals—whose physical health is not good; whose nerves are not of the strongest; whose courage is not unquestionable. The music to be played is of the extremest character, and all for the ‘future.’ There are Liszt’s ‘Faust’ Symphony; Wagner’s Introduction to ‘Lohengrin,’ and Weber’s overture to ‘Euryanthe.’ Let us hope that the directors will provide a suitable hospital staff and an ambulance corps for the occasion.”
