One of two reviews on the same page.  Fairly long review.  Fisher “has achieved one of the most wonderful successes of this wonderful season.”

Review: New York Clipper, 16 January 1864, 315.
“An accident occurred to Mazeppa’s horse, at the New Bowery, on the 8th inst., which necessitated the postponement of the play on the 9th.  While starting to run around the platform, with Miss Fisher lashed on the back of the animal, one of the boards gave way and the horse’s hind feet went through, and for the moment there was great consternation among the audience.  The ‘horse’ and ‘rider’ soon extricated themselves, however, and the show went on.  The horse was subsequently discovered to have been much injured, and another will take his place this evening, 11th, Mr. Metcalf’s ‘White Surrey’ being engaged.  ‘White Surrey’ is said to be a spirited animal.”
