“Mr. Lester Wallack’s adaptation of ‘Lady Lee’s Widowhood’ and ‘What Will He Do With It?’ still draws very good audiences. We see no reason why this play should be withdrawn, except that, in spite of the superb scenery and admirable acting, it is gradually but surely damaging the character and reputation of the theatre. As a proof of the Bowery tendencies which ‘Rosedale’ has inaugurated at this establishment, we may point to the canvas banner which Mr. Wallack has hung across Broadway in humble imitation of Barnum and other showmen. This banner is inscribed ‘Rosedale every night.’ To make it complete there should be added a picture of Mr. Lester Wallack in his soldier clothes, and the motto, ‘Three hundred dollars bounty! Walk up! Walk up!’”

“The extraordinary and unprecedented success of the new drama, which, owing to the increased demand for seats, would seem as yet to be only in the commencement of its splendid run.”
