“Tuesday’s event drew a large and elegant audience to Niblo’s Saloon. The performance of Eugene Scribe’s one-act vaudeville, ‘La Maraine,’ [sic] was a good one throughout. As usual, Miss Anna Hamburg excelled, and Messrs. Fayo and Edgard acted with excellent perception of their characters. The play is one of Scribe’s finest and would be gladly seen again and again. ‘Pantins de Violette was very well performed, but we have seen too many operettas in the French theater this season, and wished that management would turn to other genres.”
