“For the benefit of Mr. A. Gühlen, the play, Anton in Amerika, or, Faust’s Soll und Haben, will be performed. Many melodies from Gounod’s ‘Faust’ were adapted for the couplets in this so-called local farce, about which much has already been said.”

Review: New-Yorker Staats-Zeitung und Herold, 10 March 1864, 8.

“As a benefit performance for Mr. Gühlen, Seeberg’s local-burlesque, ‘Anton in America,’ was presented for the first time last evening at the Stadttheater. As at almost every benefit evening this season, the house was full-to-bursting. A detailed discussion of the play is being withheld; it will be repeated today.”
