“The Stadt Theater, which has successfully mounted a number of Shakespearian dramas this season, will present The Tempest tonight, as a benefit for its director, Mr. Knorr. The principal roles are in the hands of Mmes. Grahn, Steglich-Fuchs and von Hedemann; the men’s roles are played by Messrs. Knorr, Wenzawoky and Hoym. The sets, which have been placed at the disposal of the benefit recipient by one of the English theaters, are supposed to be dignified and beautiful.”

“We were in error when we reported yesterday that the sets were lent by one of the English theaters; in reality, Messrs. Stöckel and Dornbach are due the credit for the new set mechanisms and decorations.”

“Last evening’s second performance of Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ was not particularly well attended. Usually, benefit performances draw at least two or three full houses. The performance of this wonderful play was a – bad one: it almost seemed to us as though we were viewing a rehearsal. Only a few of the actors had somewhat penetrated the spirit of their roles – certainly none had become one with his or her character. A difficult play like Shakespeare’s ‘Tempest’ requires strenuous preparation and much rehearsal.”
