Review: New York Clipper, 13 February 1864, 347.

“…Fox is among the most successful managers at present in power in this gay and festive city. When he took the Old Bowery it was at a very low ebb; and on its last legs; but by a liberal and spirited management he has in an almost incredibly short space of time placed it upon the summit of popularity. Nearly every night so far the present season, the rush has been so great that it has been a difficult thing to obtain a seat in the lower two circles and the pit, after the performances have commenced. On the 4th inst. we paid a visit to this house to witness the pantomime of the ‘House that Jack Built,’ which has been meeting with great success. . . . This is the only theatre in the city that gives much attention to the production of pantomimes. . . . We have seen a great many pantomimes, but we never saw one where the tricks and transformations worked so well.”

A second review, very short. “There was a great rush of children and parents to the Old Bowery on Saturday afternoon last.”
