Review: New-York Times, 30 April 1864, 8.
“At 4 ½ o’clock yesterday afternoon the first rehearsal was had by the band and the choir. The ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ was the first given, and with fine effect; after which the opening hymn was attempted, and comparatively well done. Of course it will be superlatively done to-morrow, with other of the vocal efforts for it was evident that all needed [sic] was a familiarity with the acoustic peculiarities of the building by those whose voices were so harmoniously engaged.”
