“Under the name of ‘Aphrosa, or the Spirit of Beauty,’ Mr. Barnum has revived a well-known musical spectacle, (‘Satanella,’) producing it with a degree of care and fullness that entitles him to the greatest praise. The stage of the Museum is not very capacious, but in this piece it is so handsomely filled that the eye is fully satisfied. . . . The drama, which is somewhat long, receives the best of treatment at the hands of the company, and the entertainment may safely be referred to as one of the best that Mr. Barnum has provided for many months. . . . Between the acts of the spectacle the giants, the dwarf, the improvisatore [Harrison], and the Tyrolean (a swain who plays upon three pipes at once, using—rather unpoetically—his nostrils for two of them) disport themselves, and fill the audience with glee.”

“Barnum’s magic fountain has created a genuine sensation. . . . The effect of the last scene of ‘Aphrosa’ is exceedingly brilliant and quite novel.”
