“A select orchestra of from thirty to forty of the best musicians of the City will perform every night from 7 to 10 o’clock, under the direction of Messrs. Reitzel [sic] & Noll, at the Union-square Music Hall (East end.) Price of admission, 50 cents.”
“At about 10½ o’clock [p.m.] the drum corps beat the ‘tattoo,’ and in less than half an hour the building was emptied, ‘taps’ beaten, the lights put out, the great fair, which but a short time before had resounded with the merry laughter of happy thousands, and the sweet music of an excellent promenade band, lay hushed, dark and quiet.”
“About 7 o’clock last evening the rooms beganto fill up very rapidly, and soon presented a scene of beauty, fashion and magnificence not often to be witnessed outside the limits of our metropolitan city. The orchestra was occupied about the same time as Grafulla’s band, and during the evening, under the leadership of that well known artist, performed a variety of airs, including selections from the Enchantress, overture to William Tell, selections from Robert Le Diable, and Macbeth, together with other pieces of a national and patriotic character.”
