Review: New York Post, 05 December 1863, 3.
“Mr. Barnum has secured a fresh attraction in the person of one Herr Zirom, a German, who plays wonderful tunes on an instrument called an ‘Emmelynka’—a  very hard word to represent soft music; but the instrument is really nothing more than the common mouth-harmonicon.  Simple as it is, however, Herr Zirom gets extraordinary effects out of it, by curious manipulations of which he alone is master.  He came from Berlin, and is engaged to appear at the Museum on and after Monday next.  At a private performance given yesterday afternoon, the new player filled the lecture-room with the pleasant note of his music.”
