“Three splendid plays were presented on Tuesday evening at the French Theater: ‘La chanoinesse,’ by Scribe, Th. Barriere’s ‘Le feu au couvent,’ and ‘L’histoire d’un sou,’ by Clairville Lambert.  In the two first pieces, Miss Anna Hamburg proved the versatility of her superb acting: in ‘La chanoinesse,’ she played the part of a devoted girl who sacrifices for her aunt and very early learns the dark side of life.  In ‘Le feu au couvent,’ she portrays a cheerful child, who has come of age in a cloister, and now wishes to recover at her father’s home.  Mr. Gravier received the audience’s continuous applause playing the father, a wild, carefree fellow.  The comedian, Roche, and Mr. Fayo were also quite good.

In the small, above-mentioned comedy, Mr. Donaston and Miss Maillet excelled, the latter being gifted with a lovely, dainty voice.”
