Review: New-York Times, 31 March 1864, 8.

“The meeting was large and exceedingly enthusiastic.  On a table in front of the platform facing the audience, was a marble bust of Abraham Lincoln, and on either side American flag was suspended.

Hon. Chas. S. Spencer, President of the Club, on calling the meeting to order, said that before introducing the distinguished gentleman who had been invited to address them, the Glee Club would favor them with a song.  The Club then sang, “For Lincoln and Union we are marching along,’ with great acceptation.

Mr. Spencer stated that that was the first regular meeting of the Union Lincoln Campaign Club of this City, which was an organization pledged to use every honorable means to renominate and re-elect Abraham Lincoln to the Presidential chair. . . .

At the conclusion of Gen. Lane’s address the Glee club sang a patriotic song, and a band which was in attendance played a number of national airs.”
