Announcement: New-York Times, 15 February 1864, 5.

“This gallant regiment, after nearly three years’ hard service, arrived early on Sunday morning in Jersey City. The Reception Committee paid their respects to the gallant Commander, Lieut.-Col. Adolphus Dobke, who consented to accept of a formal reception this morning in this City. The regiment, having reënlisted again, is here on a thirty days’ furlough for recreation and recruiting. Today, at 10 o’clock, A. M., they will be received by their friends, reviewed by Mayor Gunther and the Common Council, and excorted by the Fifth Regiment N.Y.N.G., Col. Lewis Burger, and a large body of police (the commanding officer having been for many years, an esteemed member of the Metropolitan Force,) and by other military and civil organizations. The procession will move to Mr. Paul Falk’s, Broadway Garden, where a splendid collation will be tendered to the veterans by Mr. Falk. The old band of the Forty-fifth Regiment, and other volunteer musicians, under the leadership of Mr. Adolph Laenger, will lead the Forty-fifth, while a splendid band, offered by the Police Department, will take a proper position in the line of march. By the following programme it will be perceived what lively interest our citizens take in the gallant Forty-fifth, whose history and battles, sufferings and endurances, have given them a high place among the heroes of the war. The line of march will form in front of No. 545 Broadway, march down Broadway to near the Park, pass review before the City authorities, go up Broadway to Canal-street, through that street to Bowery, through Bowery up to Fourteenth-street, pass in review before Brig.-Gen. Kryzanowsky, turn into Broadway to the Broadway Garden, where the regiment will partake of a collation. No persons, except the regiment, the committee and invited guests, will be allowed to enter during that time. After the repast, the doors will be open for all the friends of the regiment. The preparations of the police force as to security of property and for preserving order are extensive.”

Review: New-York Times, 16 February 1864, 5.

“Early yesterday morning preparations were made for carrying out the programme for the reception of the Forty-fifth New-York Regiment. The neglect shown many of our veterans who have returned from the field being felt, it was determined to partially atone for past coldness by giving the Forty-fifth a grand welcome. Consequently the Fifth Regiment, Col. Burger commanding, assembled at 9 o’clock at Washington-square, preparatory to the reception of the heroes. At 11 o’clock, the Forty-fifth, escorted by the Fifth, entered the City Hall Park preceded by Dodworth’s Band, and were reviewed by the Mayor and Common Council. This ceremony ended, the veterans proceeded, according to previous arrangement, to Falk’s Broadway Garden, where a very fine collation had been prepared for them. Music, speeches, and ‘a good time generally’ followed.”
