Article: New York Post, 27 April 1864, 2.
“Since the 30th of April seven dramas, twenty-two comedies, twenty-five vaudevilles, two comic operas, and seven operettas—altogether sixty-three works, forming a total of one hundred and forty acts, to say nothing of a number of intermedes, chansonettes, etcetera, have been produced. There have been in all sixty-eight representations, of which fifty were offered to the subscribers, fourteen were benefit nights, three extra performances on Christmas, New Year’s, and Thanksgiving Day, and one a charity performance at the Academy of Music.
It is impossible to say at present when or where theatre will reopen; some of the artists will return to Europe, but most of them we shall probably hear again next fall.”
