“A.T. Stewart, the great dry goods man, and owner of Niblo’s Garden and Niblo’s Saloon, advertises the latter place to rent, but the terms are most too high to entice a permanent occupant thereto. Twelve thousand dollars per year is the rent, we believe, and we have been given to understand that the gas bill will have to be paid by the lessee, in addition. It is pretty heavy, taking the year round, and making allowance for the summer months; and unless a manager is sure of good houses everytime, it’s not a gold mine. It’s a pretty little saloon, but it is not benefited by being next door to Niblo’s Garden.”
