Announcement: New-York Daily Tribune, 06 June 1864.
“Next Thursday evening will be devoted at Wallack’s Theatre to the benefit of Mr. Theodore Moss, the treasurer.  Mr. Moss’s benefits are always astonishing events.  He usually has an audience extending from the first row of stalls to the uptownmost limits of Union Square.  We do not mean to say that he is subject to a densely packed multitude of these dimensions, but it is a fact that the visitors are always so far too numerous for the capacity of the house, that hosts of them early in the evening abandon all hope of witnessing the performances and pass the time strolling about the neighborhood generally peeping in at odd intervals to join in applause the object of which they cannot discern, though they feel it must be well bestowed, and therefore contribute with glad sincerity.”
