Review: New York Herald, 01 March 1864, 4.

“Verdi’s Trovatore proves attractive at all times when sung by such artists as the Maretzek troupe. Although the public seem to have gone Faust mad, still a large and most fashionable audience filled the Academy of Music last evening to hear Mme. Medori, Mlle. Sulzer, Mazzoleni and Bellini in Verdi’s masterpiece. From the commencement of the performance until the fall of the curtain on the last act the greatest success attended the efforts of these artists, who were most deservedly applauded. They were all in fine voice, and we noticed that an unusual number of encores were demanded by the well pleased audience.”
