“At ‘444’ during the past week things have been as lively as usual. The well varied and highly entertaining amusements of this numerously attended temple of recreation continue to meet with flattering success. ‘Mazulme,’ after a successful run, was withdrawn on the 5th inst. Tony Pastor continues as great a favorite as ever, and whenever he makes his appearance for a song, can make up his mind that he is good for no less than four encores, and frequently five. Jas. Wambold, with his banjo solos and negro eccentricities, ‘takes.’ Lizzie Schultze has become a prime favorite, and deservedly so in the terpsichorean line. The ballet, under the direction of Paul Brilliant, is a well drilled one, and executes some very well arranged ballets, and last, but not least, the stage management is most ably conducted by the experienced Mons. La Thorne.”
