Review: New York Herald, 20 June 1864, 4.
“Twenty-six of the juvenile musicians acted as vocalists, and the balance acted as an orchestra, with some twenty-two instruments.  The music, both vocal and instrumental, if not faultless, was highly creditable to the performers, considering their extreme youth, none of them being over sixteen years of age. . . . The mass selected was the composition of brother Leonce, a member of the Order of the Christian Brothers.”
