Article: New York Clipper, 14 May 1864, 38.
“Died in Havana, on the 28th ult., Wm. Saar, a pianist of rare merit, and a clever composer.  He was born in Vienna, but has been in this country ever since he was a little child.  Too close study, perhaps, may have hastened his decease, for he was but 26 years of age at the time of his death in Havana, to which place he had gone in the hope of improving his health.  His parents reside in New York.”
