Biographical Sketch of R. Bishop Buckley, with portrait on page 105. Buckley was born in England, no date given. “As a sound, practical musician and an instrumental performer, he holds no ordinary rank. In 1849, he held the position of solo violinist with Luke West and Peel’s Minstrels with eclat. His performance on the Chinese Fiddle has rendered that difficult instrument entirely his own . . . while as a vocalist, possessing a round and mellow voice of high tenor caliber, he gives the most difficult operatic music with artistic skill and finish, and these acquirements add no little charm to his effective rendition of various comic ballads.”
