Review: New York Clipper, 28 May 1864, 54.
“M. C. Campbell, the well known Minstrel Manager, was astonished last Friday evening at his dwelling on 3d Avenue, and awakened from his slumbers by the music of a full brass band, who gave the manager a grand old-fashioned serenade. A quartette was also in attendance, and discoursed most beautiful music. After the serenaders had sung and blowed themselves hoarse, they were called in, and did justice to a beautiful repast.”
