Review: New York Post, 09 August 1864, 2.
“Music is made a special study at Manhattan College, and the most interesting feature is the regular College band for wind and string instruments, made up of pupils of the institution.  [The Verdi and Mendelssohn] were played with a good effect.  The organization of the musical department is due to Brother Jasper, who by his indefatigable energy and perseverance has chiefly contributed to the great progress made in this department.”
