Long biographical sketch of Cool White.  A portrait of White is included on page 145.  White was born in 1821.  “In 1843 he organized the band of minstrels known as the ‘Virginia Serenaders,’ being the second band ever organized.  The company consisted of Cool white, Jim Sanford, J.R. Myers, and Robert Edwards.  This was one of the most successful troupes ever organized.”  He performed as a vocalist and burlesque actor, and even attempted a few sensation dramas on the regular stage.  He was manager or stage manager for several minstrel troupes and currently serves as stage manager of Wood’s Minstrels.
