“The Fifth Avenue Pond, which has become the crème de la crème of the skating community, presented an unusually brilliant spectacle. Throughout the day a large assemblage . . . to the music of two excellent bands, skated away gloriously, waltzing, polkaing, and quadriling in [illeg.] wonderfully correct styles. . . . In the evening, the pond was finely illuminated, and the attendance was extremely large and fashionable. Being a bright moonlight night the spectacle on the pond was truly brilliant.

The suggestion to the Arions to get up a skating fancy dress ball on this pond was much talked of yesterday, and seemed to take splendidly.”
