“About a thousand children last night . . . gave a concert and exhibition for the benefit of the Institute of Reward for Orphans of Patriots. . . . The accompaniment consisted of a piano-forte and some feeble violin playing by half a dozen kids.

The arrangement of the children on the stage was very effective; and under the cluster of gaslights were groups of faces as beautiful as those little angels or cupids which Albano and Correggio used to paint. The singing was good of its kind and was interspersed with citations and dialogues of an intensely patriot order.”
