“Quite a respectable audience of colored people assembled last evening at the Cooper Institute to participate in a general jubilee in honor of the abolition of slavery in Maryland, and to express their gratification at the re-election of President Lincoln. A very elaborate programme was put forth. . . .
The exercises were varied by singing, recitations, dialogues, &c. . . .The meeting altogether was conducted very creditably, and must, from the numbers present, have realized a handsome sum, which is to be devoted to the society.”
