“The Church of the Incarnation was opened the first time on Sunday last, and, although the weather was of the most inclement kind, the edifice was crowded to excess. . . . The position of the organ and choir is on the left of the chancel and facing the congregation, and as an experiment proved a decided success, the most soft and delicate passages being distinctly heard in every part of the church.  The music, under the direction of Wm. E. Beames, Esq., was all that could be desired.  The opening piece, ‘I was glad when they said unto me we will go into the house of the Lord,’ was a very effective adaptation from Haydn’s Sixth Mass, and exceedingly well rendered, as was also a morceaux offertory arranged from Weber.  The choir labored under the disadvantage of a miserable organ, which, had it not been played upon in a masterly manner, its dismal and whining tones would have ruined the otherwise excellent music.”
