“The opening promenade concert . . . took place on Saturday night at the armory . . . The regimental band furnished the music.  The armory was brilliantly lighted; the attendance was large, and the scene was a very fine one.  The company included a considerable number of distinguished persons, among whom were Major General Meade, Governor Fenton and Quartermaster General Merritt. All these gentlemen were called upon and made speeches.”

“The Twenty-second Regiment opened their promenade concert season Saturday evening, at their armory, in Fourteenth-street, near Sixth-avenue.  A fashionable audience was assembled to listen to the music of the regimental band, and enjoy an agreeable promenade through the rooms.  The concert was in every way a success and the season also will doubtless prove so.”
