Very difficult to read. “The taste of the East End inclines towards variety and [illeg.]ation in the dramatic line. The people who frequent the Bowery theatres exact the worth of their money on both these points. They must have a large diversity of excitement, and the excitement must be of the highest tone—considerably above concert pitch. The managers, therefore, very wisely accommodate them. The New Bowery last night was given up to the benefit of Mr. Nelse Seymour, one of the Bryant Minstrel troupe. To the variety of the performance, which consisted of three parts, the Bryants contributed their peculiar branch of [illeg.]. The house was so crammed as to render the announcement at the door –“Standing room only”—a piece [illeg.] on the part of the management; for there was not even a standpoint from which to view the stage after the rising of the curtain. The audience was evidently in the full spirit of the entertainment, and the [illeg.] must have reaped a greenback harvest.”
