Letter from Max Maretzek to the Editor of the New-York Herald, responding to an editorial [08/11/65] critical of the roster of singers for the upcoming season.  “I beg to ask whether you have [sic] heard of Bosio, Steffenone, Laborde, Medori, Carozzi, and many others before their arrival in this country? Or have you perhaps heard of Mazzoleni, Brignoli, Amodio, Graziana, Bellini, before their appearance in New-York? Each of them was unknown, but they came, sang, and triumphed!  Perhaps those who will come next season may do the same. Anyhow they are entitled to a fair trial before a damaging verdict is given against them.”
