Negative review.  Calls the production “amateur;” the writer “never saw it so butchered.”  “Manager Fox, who announced on the opening night that he had engaged a company strong enough to preclude his playing for a while, has, before the first week closed, found out his error, and has been obliged to appear himself.  Mr. Fox, we admit, is a favorite at the east side, but with all his popularity combined with ‘his excellent company,’ the house was not more than half full when he appeared.  That part of the house which seems to appreciate him the most, viz, the pit, the colored gallery, and second tier, were crowded; but the orchestra and dress circle were not more than half full.  Thus talent is appreciated.”
